I open the bolt, put the mag in and the mag release fully engages and rounds will cycle fine manually.
Everything looks in good working order and an initial inspection seems fine. It looks like the mag release is not fully engaging. Tried a couple of different mags (GI and Pmag) to the same problem. I took my normal GI mag loaded and put it into the mag well with the bolt closed and when to put it back into the safe but I noticed the mag wasn't seated all the way. I pulled my mag out last night, made sure it was clear and swapped my handguards back to the stock black plastic. I have a Stag model 2 that is new to me and I've owned it for around 3 months (first AR).
