The furnace's at the Riken - the ship stuck in the ice. Two places you can do this (since you need a furnace):Īt Desolation Point you'll likely find a hammer at Hibernia Processing, some scrap (or a hacksaw to make it) should be there too, and you can get coal from nearby mines.
food and water - the process lasts a while (5h for crafting alone), stockpile some. lots of fuel - you might want to get some wood too to get the temperature up without coal, but eventually you'll need coal itself, 5 units at least, if i remember correctly, but likely more than that there's plenty around though usually, so this isn't much of a nuisance I'd advise to bring some extra to keep the fire burning long enough for you to craft since it's quite an endevour and you might just not want to do this more than once )
Requirements are listed in the crafting menu (5 scrap metal and one cloth for the hatchet, two less scrap for the knifie), but other than those: You only need to craft an improvised hatchet and an improvised knife.
